Short off day post for you all! I forgot to mention that the Nova Open Charity Raffle is now live! Buy your tickets! So many amazing artists have contributed! Including everyone's favorite Mordain7th! But that's not all. Have a Dread update! I worked on finalizing his pose last night. I think i like his arms best like this. This pose is further along, as his other leg, claws, shoulders are now in place. Put a marine in for scale. He's quite intimidating! You can barely see the little grot in front! I'm thinking arm poses from the first set of photos. Thoughts?

Welcome friends! Had a great hobby breakthrough this week. Have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to get the deff dread base setup and finished. Finally woke up with an idea and went straight to work! I went to work grabbing some bitz and bubs to both support the main leg section, as well as cover up the gaps in the various sections of the base. Looking like a proper scrapyard base now. Tried to think about things like...how would someone get onto the rhino top? So made sections which they could walk up, and scratch marks from the constant climbing of the gretchin.
It's Monday! Surprise! Honda is taking a break while he deals with real life issues, so I've got a weekend update for you on the Nova Open stuff! Check it out! I'm on the artist page now! It's for reals! I haven't been leaving in a Mek's dream! :) Also buy tickets. I'm required to say that for the children, puppies, and kittens. But seriously, I have gotten a bit of painting and work time in.
Welcome back one and all! Short update for you all this week. My normal hobby time (Wednesday and Weekend) got a bit side tracked. We went to Pittsburgh to visit Sarah's maid of honor and attend the art festival being held there. It was a wonderful time, but completely ate into all my hobby time! Not all was lost though, got some wonderful weathering shots, and picked up a wonderful new piece of art by Brianna Layman It's a lovely piece, made with a variety of media types. Just loved the flow of it. It's now our second purchased piece in the house!
Welcome welcome welcome...to the Greggles home remodeling network. Where I lure you in with talks of orks and hobby, and then quickly throw in some plumbers and dry wall! As you can imagine, this week has been full of doing pretty much everything but hobby. Lacked quite a bit in free time, as most was spent on moving things, cleaning things, or trying to patch holes in walls! But at least the plumber is done with the house pipes now! Lets see what I was able to get to!
Hey everyone! Welcome back. This week was a pretty hobby filled week. Got some work done on my renegade knights, fully cleaned up the deff dread, magnetized, and pinned him all up, and most of the pipes in my house were replaced! Lets get started! As a reminder, the deff dread is for nova open charity. Check it out! He is still missing his main shoulder pauldrons (or whatever they are called), but he is cleaned up and ready for paint. I tried to do a super man pose, as he is just taking off, and I'd imagine the mek/boy inside is quite proud of himself at having the only "flying" deff dread. I also had a funny idea (no idea if I will implement it) at having a grot holding a remote control on the base, with a very very very short cable.
I just have to figure out exactly how I'm going to mount him on a base. I have a few ideas. Greetings my plastic addicted friends! Welcome back to another week of Greg making excuses for not posting updates on Thursday! Don't worry, this week I actually did some hobby! So as I was working on the grots for the Nova Open Charity, I realized something...i can't see mouldlines for crap. So I invested in a pair of magical ocular devices. Now I can see every mouldline from here to the eye of terror! So many mouldlines...I think I got the worst batch of grots GW has ever created. At least a good few hours just scraping the crap outta everything.
Welcome back, fellow finger stabbers! This week I continue my quest to try and get my charity donation underway. Bit boring, but necessary work has to be done! First off, I finally put together my Black Maria Designs Hobby Rack. I got the prototype nearly a year ago, and I was just that lazy...(and also didn't quite have the space). Works great for holding my secret weapon washes (and soon acrylics) . Todd and Sean just came up with an extra tier to fit all the AK products, so I'll be purchasing that soon to reclaim even more table space!
Welcome back fellow hobbyists! This week I actually take a look at my hobby area, cry a bit, then get to work. So as you might have imagined...the hobby room took the brunt of the house move. All my time and energy was spent elsewear...and coming back to this pile of mess was just disheartening. Well no more! Not only have I been sorting paints and getting everything ready, but I've also been selling off old armies (that i didn't paint) and boxes I didn't want anything to do with...which means more goodies soon!
Welcome #dreadtober enthusiasts! Sorry for the lack of updates. Been having so real life stuff pop up (all good stuff!) as well as becoming addicted to metal gear solid V. At least that was walkers in it, so it's a bit of an inspiration at the same time :) Have to take a moment here and applaud Todd's awesome logo he created for the event. It's been a driving force for the group of participants, and has rallied the cause, showing up all over the googles! Todd is DA MAN! Before I get started, remember that this is just "my update" to dreadtober, and not the main dreadtober page. Dreadtobers main page can be accessed via this button, or by clicking the awesome logo!
It's been a long journey, but I'm finally here guys! I painted right up to the last minute, and had to start making cutting room floor decisions. As anyone who has painted orks before knows, even a small model can have endless levels of details! This update will be a bit shorter, as I only brought half my files with me, but I promise to make it up to you guys with endless Nova photos! Thought I'd try something new and show you the end product first, then talk about everything :)
Welcome back everybody! Another big update for you all. There pretty much hasn't been a single day I haven't been painting since last we spoke. Continuously updating on twitter @3dgreg, and trying to get this army to a decent standard before Nova! Lets see, where did we leave off! The bigger dreads! When I first started chipping the big guys, I Was very disappointed. I think it was because I was seeing patterns which didn't actually exist. When you spend so much time chipping, you tend to become hyper focused on a particular area, and can tend to get a wee upset when it doesn't chip the way you wanted. After a good week of doing all the dreads, I'm much happier with how they look now. The one that that is particularly exiting about the chipping process, is how the under layers vary the chip tones, so you get a lot of interest on the model.
Hold onto your hats ladies and gentlemen, it's a big hobby update this week. I finished one display shelf, and started work on the second, painted up a dakkajet, gorkanaut, and mega dread with the chipping method, experimented with enamels, and even started on some lootas and mega nobz! So lets jump right into it shall we? After I finished rusting up the display shelf, I felt it blended too much into display...and wasn't eye catching at all...hmm I need to test this chipping method...so lets bad moon it up! This immediately makes the shelf extremely eye catching, and really drives in the fact that the cart is also my display! You are probably wondering...wow greg. How does this even work? Well here you go! A video of the magic! (warning, I say shit...er crap I mean)
Welcome back everyone! I finally beat the Witcher 3, and laid down my swords for some glue and a mouldine scraper. I had a wonderful time caught in the world of The Witcher, so much so that I bought books to read within the same universe! But now it's time to get back to the hobby, and boy am I behind. First up is the second troop choice in my army, another unit of gretchin! You might be thinking to yourself...hey wait a minute, didn't Greg just finish a unit of gretchin? Is he trying to pawn off that unit to make up for the fact he lost 100 hours of time playing witcher???? I'm not lying to you guys! Look! Not only that, but this time I made a video...so you can actually listen to me talk, and watch me work!
Keegan gave the tourniquet another twist.
He was having a lot of trouble getting the stump to stop bleeding. Looking around and not seeing anyone left from his squad, seemed to be a sign that he wouldn't have to worry about bionics. Not that he'd mind a new leg, but the way things were going, he doubted the Hospitallers were going to get a chance to save his sorry butt. To be frank, Keegan was a little surprised that he had made it this far. |
