“You wa Shock!” something-something-somethiiiinnngggg! Yeah!
Fist of the North Star was a manga series that started back in 1983 and was followed by an anime adaptation in 1984. Whether you've had direct contact with the series or not, you have probably heard it referenced or seen pictures of it somewhere. This was a series that I was introduced to me well over ten years ago....but I've only started to seriously watch it this past month. Back then, my exposure to anime was still very limited and my friend's recommendation of, “Oh man, this show is crazy! He makes people's heads explode!” only carried so much weight. I can't remember if I actually watched the entire first episode, but I do remember that the art style and animation came across as ridiculously dated. I dismissed it in favor of newer astonishing titles like the Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust movie.
Now there is the explanation of moves after they are performed (I just struck these pressure points etc.) but it easy to look past that when the deaths are BRUTAL! Lets just say that you get off easy if Kenshiro performs a standard head exploding attack.
Even with all of the bad-assery, I figured that this series might wind down sooner than later based on its plot structure. Not even close – 152 episodes and a few movies as well! I'll have to see how it carries on, though as I've already hit a filler episode. I do hope they keep including the background tales of hardship for the people that Ken meets along the way, as this adds greatly to the story line.
So what do you guys think? Who has watched or read the series in its entirety?
