Greetings! If you couldn't tell, this is my favorite time of the year. That being said, I've been busy getting ready for our annual Halloween Party. If you aren't in the mood yet, just take a listen to these perfect theme songs, from one of my favorite bands, for this wondrous festival! Be safe, be scary and above all be nerdy!
Greetings fiends! For as far back as I can remember, I have always loved Halloween. The weather is perfect, there are lots of fun events, people shed their mental restrictions and take a step into the shadows.....and it doesn't hurt that my birthday is around this time as well. The world becomes filled with images of vampires, ghosts, demons and of course ZOMBIES!!!
Society has been forever enthralled with the dead rising after their spark has been extinguished. It is something so unnatural and perverse that we simply can't help ourselves. For some time now, these shambling horrors have been lurking in the main stream, leaving traces of their fetid flesh in all aspects of life.
Greetings! Since my last post I have been able to read the last issue of the male Thor series and the first of the new female Thor series. Both issues had strong art and....well, lets just say that I'm going to wait for the next issue to levy a judgement. As things stand, I am a bit displeased with the transition, but that could all change very easily. Also, while the new series doesn't have that "classic art" style of Ribic, I look forward to seeing more work from the new artist, Russell Dauterman. I'll be sure to do a full write up when Thor #2 comes out.
Greetings! Yes, this saying has shown itself in both the positive and negative since my last post. Lets begin the with negative, shall we? This coming Saturday, Copa Nova (the local bjj tournament) is going to take place. I was all set with my preparation until Wednesday of last week. Towards the end of class, I stood up from a lunge position and felt a small pinch in my right hamstring/bottom corner of my inner thigh. Not good. Many years ago I pulled my hamstring very badly and since then every 6-12mo, I get reminded. This has been a big bummer since this was to be my first tournament at blue belt. It was really hard for me, but I made the right decision and pulled out. Its better to take some time off now instead of a lot of time later.
Greetings everyone! In a previous post I mentioned how my Hulk comic sub skipped an issue and I had not heard back from them yet. Well, it took about a week, but they finally did write an apologetic letter telling me that my missing issue was on its way. This wound up working in my favor, though. I was able to read comics #3-#5 in one sitting with #6 arriving not far after.
The end of the "Who Shot Bruce Banner" story arc really felt like Marvel was just phoning it in. From a botched cover (you'd expect someone to make an appearance if there are arrows sticking out of the Hulk....nope) to a horrible theory that if Banner heals as the Hulk, things won't heal properly (his brain). Obviously, the brain is more complex than skin or bone, but if this was the truth wouldn't Bruce be a mass of scar tissue and disfigured bones by now? On top of that, the only thing that we find out is that a seemingly random female double agent shot Banner. Such closure.
Without going into too much deatial, the arc ends like this: the people that had Banner shot sent a version of the Abomination to finish off the job but eventually the Avengers rescue/take hold of Bruce in a Banner state and whisk him away to one of Tony Stark's facilities. It is here that this comic finally got my attention again.
Tony and his brother figure that one of the only ways to heal Bruce's brain is to pull out one of their abandoned/forbidden projects : Extremis. This was my first reading of it, so here is the expanation:
