I did get a chance to finally prime the mega dread...which is much harder then it seems. It's a ton of separate parts, and getting them all primed up was a combination of imperial primer, and chaos black spray.
Hey guys! Hope you all had a good weekend. I know most of the buzz was about the Space Wolf codex, and the Grey Knight leaks. I hope it's excited you all...if not, don't fret. I'm hoping it'll all make sense once all the codexes receive the same level of "re balancing." I just wish they could figure out a way to do this a bit more globally, instead of slow piece meals. Maybe some day! In the meantime, I had a pretty long weekend. Went to the zoo, saw some animals, got a little drunk, ate some Maryland blue crabs. All in all a pretty good weekend. This however didn't leave much time for painting. I did get a chance to finally prime the mega dread...which is much harder then it seems. It's a ton of separate parts, and getting them all primed up was a combination of imperial primer, and chaos black spray. But that's not all! I also was able to purchase a forge world ork warboss biker from ebay! An actual forgeworld one! I've been trying to get one for ages... Read on to find out more! (Or click dat link thingy)

Time to switch engines for a propa orky one! I got to work this week on finishing up a set of five grots to act as hull points for my gorkanaughts/morkanaughts. It was a fun project, and I'm really happy with the final result! We'll start out on the full photo. Unlike the previous mock up's of the grots, they are all painted, and fully magnetized to the Dragon Forge Knight base! Read on to see the individual grots, and how it looks with the mega dread in place! Welcome back my fellow hobbyist friends! This week I've been working on assembling my ork runt bot and ork Supa kannon...which I am finding out is a horrible recast. I've also finished my reorganization (in terms of moving and furniture), and now just await my paint trays! The ork runtbot is a pretty cool model. It's a shame no rules were ever released for it. I was hoping to possibly use it as either a mega-armored warboss, or a deff dread. It's a bit small for a deff dread though (here it is on a 60mm base). I also don't like the default pose which is very hunched over. It's hard to see any of the models details. Welcome back friends! I hope you are as excited as I am. The steam summer sale, and the ork codex goes up for pre-order today! Woo!!!! Well I'm excited, my wallet and bank account aren't! I spent a lot of time working on the Morkanaut in the last few days, as well as shuffling around more things in my reorganization. So here he is! Quite an impressive model. Lot of detail and work into this guy. Thanks to fellow bloggers, I was able to magnetize all sorts of goodies on him! Watching paint dry was a great source for tips, as well as how to magnetize the Mork/Gorkanaut. The ideas I use are direct from his video and guide! On to my build! What a week! Most of my free time went into continued reorganization of my painting/hobby area. I worked on building a Gorkanaut, an Detolf cabinet, and excitedly read about all the upcoming ork releases! Not every blog post can be about finished models...I don't know how some of you guys do models so quickly! My first major project was putting together the IKEA Detolf cabinet. This a a rather inexpensive safety glass enclosure (which is pre-notched for lighting) that many hobbyist use to protect and display their models. Until this point, I've had them sitting on an open shelf. Exposed to dust...and my somewhat faithful companion Render the cat. Hey everyone! I'm back from New Orleans. Had a wonderful time visiting my sister and hanging out with my lovely lady...but now it's back to serious plastic business! I was able to work on my storm talon yesterday, and also purchased a few goodies! I finished the line edgework (much like the hunter/stalker), base metallics, and the first wash. This is just the base red at this point, and will soon get it's second layer + wash/highlight. The line work on this one is a bit messier. The sharp angles plus a degrading brush caused them to be a bit slopier. I'm telling myself that it's an aircraft, so it should be a bit less clean. We will see how I feel when it's completely done! This is also not it's final form. I'm currently hunting ebay for drop pod fins at a decent price after seeing a tutorial from Danny over at hand of junk! Danny's conversion is simple, and looks quite cool. I'm going to modify his design to still keep the turret on the chin, but otherwise I like the new placement of the missiles and longer wings. Hey Guys! Hope you are having a blast reading about 7th edition that, and 7th edition this. I've been taking this time to try and build/paint as many things as possible. (to distract myself) It's been a very busy few days. I've worked on orks, necrons, dark eldar, and black templar...and tried an airbrush for the first time! I finally got some time to start experimenting with the airbrush I got over a year ago. It's your bog standard amazon 17 dollar airbrush + compressor. I figured I'd cut my teeth on something cheap and learn the ropes before going for a really nice model. I started with using some vallejo air grey, and just did light passes over the buildings. I somehow jammed up the nozzle for awhile, till I figured out it was my own stupidity. This was a really dark grey, but I was amazed at how it started pulling detail out so quickly. I'm going to do another pass with a lighter grey to add further details, then probably a wash. Anyone have suggestions on a good bulk wash? I was thinking army builder dark tone, since you can get it in the big can. I was also amazed at the painting efficiency of an airbrush. Used 1/3 a bottle, did 6 buildings and two vehicles. Finally got a techmarine off ebay for a decent price (around 15 bucks). You'd think these guys were made of gold the amount of money people want for them! The model I picked up was finecast. I've had some poor luck with finecast lately, but decided I didn't want a metal version of the techmarine. The amount of pinning I'd have to do would cause me no end of grief. (I'm horrible at pinning things). The model I got turned out to be in excellent shape. Only bubbles I could find were in the feet, and the detail was superb. I washed the resin, and started trying to figure out how to put this guy together. Luckily the web is full of examples, so it wasn't too difficult. After seeing just how many pieces were on the model, I decided to magnetize as much of him as possible. This week on the workbench, I assembled a crusader, a techmarine, and painted up a comms relay. Been a busy one! Lets jump right into the Crusader. This is the 15mm Crusader from Dreamforge games. I picked one up during their fantastic sale (prior to the imperial knights release). I wanted a model that was similar to a contemptor dread, as I wanted to play with one (but didn't want to buy one, mainly cause I know they'd come out with a Black Templar one the second I ordered it) This kit is quite different then your standard GW kits. Pretty much all the joints are posable, and all the pistons move. Because of this, each assembly section takes quite a bit longer then you'd expect. One of the arm joints has nearly a dozen pieces, all which must be fitted just right. Luckily they use screws for the tougher sections, which not only let you set the tension of the joints, but prevent you from making a model destroying super glue mistake. I would not recommend this kit for a beginning modeler. You'll tear your hair out. It definitely takes patience, but you'll be rewarded. |
