spice tolerance

2/26/2015

I enjoy cooking. I like knowing what is going into my body and adjusting recipes to my own preferences. Don't get me wrong, i love eating out and fast food too. BUT, if i have the time, and the ingredients, I will happily cook up a tasty meal. Lately, I have been branching out and trying different things. Actual meals, instead of just frying, grilling or baking some sort of meat and adding a side or two. I've been making various curry dishes, meatloafs, and various other asian foods like drunken noodles. Problem is, I am also impatient at times, so I will sample to figure out flavors and if I need to add or modify before the full flavor explodes... worst is when it comes to dealing with cooking with peppers, specifically jalepeno peppers. I usually misjudge in either direction, and end up with some variety of spice level I am not prepared for.

considerate

Think this comic is a good illustration on my outlook of life. I rather be put out rather than put someone else out. It was actually amusing. I ended up sitting in an empty room on the floor while the cleaners were doing their thing than interrupt to get some water. Little did I know, they had already finished up and left. So I sat there thirsty and just drawing away for like 2 hours. I rather have that than mess up their schedule and ruin whatever work they had just put in. Guess I'm a fairly considerate person. or am I just anti-social or inept?

scarves

It is freaking cold out. I usually can deal with the cold pretty well. Some days the past month or 2 have actually gotten to me. People look at me like I'm crazy because I don't really wear a thick coat most days. It is more like a fleece if anything, and not even really that. I have a lot of hoodies that are far thicker and warmer. Growing up in the NE, and and then going to school in Western NY my body has gotten used to adapting pretty quick to the drops in temps. I do have winter clothes. I do own scarves. I actually have a few scarves from the various PAX EASTS I have gone to, plus a special scarf I got as appreciation for helping an organization out. I can not wear them because after like 4 mins, I'm boiling hot. You may think "then loosen it or open it up". It does not help. Once my body temp gets up, it takes me a good long while to cool down. I have the same issues running, and wearing long sleeves, hats, gloves, or whatever. Unless it is in the 30's I can't even think about bundling up. Hence even though I like the idea and the look of them, I just can't wear scarves.

unfinished business

Evolve came out on Tuesday. I played the hell out of the alpha and the beta. I am still enjoying it. It has some hiccups, but overall the experience is still super fun. It feels well balanced to me except the 3rd monster. It is by far the stronger monster you face, but I think once I get used to seeing it and figuring out its abilities and limitations, it should be fine. Right now I'm playing mostly trapper, since everyone I'm playing with prefer other classes, and I don't mind swapping around. When it is just me, I'm jumping between all the classes to get a good feel for the game. Over the weekend I got caught up drawing instead of finally beating Shadows of Mordor. I'll post up that piece and the progress shots in another post. That's just one more game in my stack that I've been neglecting.

timely fraud

so last week,  I was notified by my bank that there was some suspicious activity on my card. I went through and there was in fact a charge that I had not in authorized. Turned out it was for some fur company Tenn. They had already reversed the charge by the time I had called in. They quickly shut down that card and I was on my way out to work money access-less. It was pretty timely since I had just been thinking I needed t cut back on my spending for a while. So thank you ID theif?

sacrifice

This week has been pretty rough. I've had to work a couple long ass days where my coworkers had to leave early or arrive late. On top of that, Monty Oum's passing hit me a lot harder than I expected. So on Monday, it was pretty rough. Got home later than usual from work, and I didn't get any down time to work on the strip. Being stressed and tired both physically and emotionally really hurt.

That being said, I am going to be working harder on the comics, and more importantly working on my skills. Not only with the strip, but also really buckle down with my running and other interests. I never did learn to draw, but I'm going to start to pick up the skills. Monty was self taught, and was one of the most dedicated people ever to his craft. He always said (to paraphrase) that putting your all into the craft you love is worth all the hours you are up awake at it. How can that be a sacrifice?

BAR DEBACLE PART2

2/3/2015

it is 3am on the day the comic is to be posted, and I just finished it. The last 2 hours I've been fighting my computer to get it done. I worked 9 hours today and it is the day it was announced that Monty Oum passed away. This I will admit slowed me down, as I would stop every so often to read comments on the site or on twitter about how he influenced people's lives. He was a great inspiration to me. I got the chance to talk to him each of the Pax Easts he has gone to, and I always came away with a smile and desire to do more creative work. He was one of the driving forces that got me to finally star doing these comics. He will be missed, As for the comic, this is a continuation of the story from our bar time at Magfest. The remainder of the events all occurred over the next hour and half... Everytime we saw food, or drinks or even our server out, we would think "how bout now?"
