The dust storms of Delaware

6/27/2014

Comments

Last week I had to draw last tuesday's, Friday's, and I was at the Firefly  Music fest in Delaware. It was 4+ days of awesome. So many great memories and met some really awesome people. The music performances were all really great. Foo Fighters surprised with a super long and amazeballs setS and Outkast kicked some serious beats ass as headliners. There was so much great music to check out, on a daily basis we walked about 10-12 miles and that didn't count the hours of just standing around listening to music or dancing. The only real drawback from what I gather was what people are referring to as "firefly lung". Who knew Delaware had  dust storms. Where is Spiderman when you need him?

log out

I don't understand people who go into computer stores such as apple and then log into their personal accounts from one of the display units. You see it all the time. People getting their emails or facebook. Actually, it goes for any store that you know tons of people are going to be using the same computers to mess with in short bursts like Best buy and stuff. These are the same people who for some reason have to bring back the product cause they messed up something by being careless (yes I am generalizing) . Inevitably, someone always leaves their accounts logged in and then heads out. People, if you aren't good with the memory thing, or tend to just leave things behind... please just don't. Always remember kids. LOG OUT or bad things can happen to you or the next guy

Hearts In Stars And Wars

a little known fact about me... okay,  widely known fact, is that I love the Star Wars franchise. I have read a huge chunk of the expanded universe and researched a lot of it. it does not take much for me to smile when it is mentioned . a and when people do not understand, it takes some effort for me to reign myself in from saying...

but star wars

corn and holes

Over the weekend, we all went to a BBQ. Ate lots of tasty noms, watched the world cup, and relaxed. Later, Greggles and I realized there was a cornhole set. Neither of us have played before, but we watched the Ommeganauts play it at PAX east. I think we both thought it looked easier than they portrayed. We quickly learned we are just as nerdy as those players were and thus just as bad. Granted, we set em up too far apart, but we still were pretty atrocious. I feel like Greggles may have been aiming at me...  time will tell.

mobile watchdogs

Last week, I learned about the watchdogs mobile app and played around with it. I then told Greggles about it, and we learned that he didn't need xbox gold, nor the game itself. We quickly got hooked on messing with other people's games and playing against each other. I would/do tell him when I am playing and then he logs on and we go at it. I nw stream it when we do, so he can witness the chaos that ensues. You too can see vi my twitch account under the name of "mcslanty".

On Saturday, I brought my Xbone over to the house of  greggles to play it side by side and so I could try the other end of it. When you can see the direct results of what you are tapping, it turned out to be way more fun. It was already fun, but it was awesome seeing it in real time.  So much fun that I was tempted to yell "NO TAKE BACKS".

I will elaborate on the app. It allows yo to jump into people's games and create an instance that takes him out of his current game t make a mini game. The player drives through the city through checkpoints earning more time and money as he goes. The app user, controls a helicopter that when in range of the player, gets powerups. These powerups allows you to bring in various police cars, and mess with stoplights, road barriers, steam pipes and a number of other things. I highly recommend it, and even more so if you know someone with the game to see how you directly compete with them.

A new section has arrived

6/12/2014

Today I unveil a new addition to the Shantz section, Tales of the Dice!  This will be a historical document of the woes that occur while being a toon in my party in various tabletop gaming sessions. These will be in rounds of Warhammer 40k, D&D and various other games where the dice can and will eventually (or continiously) turn against me. These will not be as frequent as Panoramic Enlightenment, as these will all be based on my gaming sessions/schedules. I will attempt to keep em every other week on Thursdays. Hope my party's misery results in your delights.

gluten and health

It may not be public knowledge (sorry Arwyn), but she has issues with gluten. It has taken some time for some of us to get used to, as we all enjoy bringing food to gatherings. It has not been a lot of time since she had announced she must go gluten free.  Others not in the group that she has to interact with at times do not swem to get the seriousness of this. Those people suck and deserve all the indigestion and embarrassing mud butt happenings (not what happens to Arwyn).

the sky ball of burns

6/6/2014

Comments

Last week, I met up with someone who had spent a bunch of time in the sun and got sunburn. I, in all my "suck it" glory talked about how I rarely ever get sunburns and almost never wear suntan lotion. I should have known better than to tempt fate. Over the weekend, I went running in the woods, then had a cookout and then the next day spent 4-5 hours in the sun interpreting. Of course I ended up getting a bit of a burn. just a small one, In like 2 days it was a nice tan. Still sucked though. I guess I ramped up a bit too much too fast. Heck,  when a whole bunch of friends and I went to Jamaica, I didn't wear any til like 6 days in (and only after we went out on a boat all day for fishing and I got burned to a crisp) and was perfectly fine. 2 days in the NE sun burns me? Dear skin... get with it. Summer hasn't even started. We got a lot of abuse ahead of you.

I have been playing Watchdogs for the last week. I got sucked into the story pretty quick. Although, for the first day or 2 or roughly 4 hours of playtime (been a busy frakin week), I was not sure I was enjoying it. I had gone into it thinking I was going to be like a ninja, hacking all the things and taking down baddies without them ever knowing I was around. Alas, the first few side missions I took felt more like I was screaming watch me dawg  everywhere I went (to be fair, in hindsight I did a bunch of side missions I was not prepared for right off the bat).

Now that I have a bunch of hours with it, I will say it is highly entertaining. I do not get to be completely stealthy, but I am for the most part. The game play feels good, and the escaping from cops and baddies is a lot of fun once you get used to it and understand the mechanism. Watching my friends jump on and play it has also been a great treat Seeing how they would do things in comparison to myself is a fun exercise.
