It is funny. I don't really get upset with those interactions. They are doing their jobs. Yes it is a little frustrating to me, that I go out of my way to explain everything with the hope that it will speed things up and not cause them to stop processing others and thus hold up all the other contractors and visitors. What really irks me is when security guards get cute. I'm cool with them being personable and friendly. I chit chat with some on occasion (Always keep them on your side. It can really pay off at times). However, when they just start asking personal questions for no reason and with no context is when I start to bubble up with true annoyance. They are now inconveniencing me as well as my clients just for their own sake. It is worse when people make assumptions.
I go to many places as an interpreter. This usually results in me having to interact with lots of security guards and officers. Some places I go to recognize me or the various badges and clearances I have and just do a check in. Other places are pretty typical of what you would experience at an Airport (bag scans, metal detectors). Other places can get pretty overzealous. Full metal scans, bag scans, and then bag inspections. Laptops and any other electronics out and inspected. Now, I have a powerbag by FuL. It has a built in battery pack to charge up my various electronics since I never know what to expect on any given day. Some days I burn through juice by 11am, other days I have no access at all to any gear. Now, the battery pack and wiring is nonremovable. I have traveled on airlines with this bag in the US and internationally. I have never had any problems with it at airports. Some places I have to go to for interpreting, it is like I ride in on a unicorn, with a horn made of gunpowder. Despite me explaining the bag and opening it up showing them the pack and wiring before they scan it. "What is that? Is that some sort of electronic? You need to take that out and have it scanned. What do you mean it can't be taken out? There are a bunch of wires in your bag, what are those for? please remove them. Do you ever travel? You should invest in another bag, there is no way this is allowed on a plane."
