Greetings everybody! Hope everyone is doing well this Adepticon Wednesday! That's right, it is finally time for Adepticon! Today I'm going to talk about what I've been up to in prep for adepticon, (my schedule), meetups, work on my deff dread for crystal brush, and how I transported my orks to LVO. It's a whopper of a post!

From the RJ-16 Review. Minor damage repairs!
On the hobby front...this was a mixed week. First off, I repaired some of the damage to my mini's from the transport. Gave a killa kan some new pinned ankles, and repaired some deff dread exhausts.
Time for a new base!
Next up was sprucing up the deff dread for Adepticon. As part of my hobby to do list, I've decided that I have to submit something for entry at any miniature convention I attend....even if I don't think it will place or win. I just have to do it, to keep myself moving forward, and making me more comfortable with the process. I've already seen that just putting your work out there can bring you wonderful feedback, and that alone is worth the price of admission!
So to start off, I removed him from the resin base, and started prepping him for attaching him to the deff dread base I had made a few months ago. I also applied chipping fluid (when it was warm enough) to both the deff dread, and a "test" tank.
The test tank is an old looted wagon I got from someone when I originally purchase my starter ork sets. I've since used it to experiment with techniques, a test bed of sorts before things touch my main models. In this case, I was trying out new secret weapon powders to see how they'd look and add to the weathering on the dreads.
After this, I did the chipping fluid on the tank, experimenting with thinning it, until it sprayed right. Then I applied it to the deff dread as well. Boy is it shiny! (super gloss extreme!). I waited a good long time for it to dry, then started applying coats of yellow and some metallics.
When this had dried, I got a stiff dry brush, wet it down, and started brushing the paint to start the chipping process...and promptly ripped all the paint straight off. What the heck? Oh wait, I seem to have forgotten a step....seal the model before chipping fluid... Oops. So it basically took off all the layers cept the base layer because I never did the varnish. :(

So back to the dread...who was now super glossy, I was a bit hesitant. So I applied yellow paint in particular areas, and then rubbed it off with the stiff brush. It helped brighten the yellows, and gave another interesting layer...it's very subtle!
Then I took a sponge and did some dark metal weathering on the edges, and brightened up the pistons. Also did a bit of bronze work.
Then I got out my airbrush to put on matte varnish, and found my needle was glued in place...I hadn't cleaned the chipping fluid off enough, and now I was paying the price. I threw the whole thing in a ultrasonic cleaner with some airbrush cleaner and was able to get it loose. Few! Didn't want to have to buy another airbrush!
So after the matte varnish, I went back with a lighter metallic, and some glazing, and a bit of weathering on the bronze. Just a bit of subtle work here and there to try and add a bit more to the piece. Still needs a ton of work, and it has mould lines, so I don't expect it to ever place in a full competition. Doesn't hurt to try though!
