Nova Open Was Absolutely Amazing!

Hey Guys! What an absolutely amazing last few days. I've been at Nova Open having the time of my life. So many models, so many amazing people, so much gaming! I'm going to be breaking up these NOVA articles into sections, as there is just so much to cover. I took photos everyday, and have around 500 to go through, including nearly a shot of every single attendee's 40k army. Will take a bit to go through all the photos though, so make sure to check back as the week progresses.

To start off with, I'd like to talk about the tournament atmosphere. Though I didn't participate directly, I had plenty of time to watch all sorts of players interacting with each other, and playing all sorts of games. There was invitational, trios, narrative, and GT campaigns. If you are one of those individuals who reads the main rumor blogs, or forums, you may be under the impression that these tournaments are a place filled with hatred, anger, and poor gamesman ship. This could not be further from the truth. Everyone was extremely friendly, with lots of comradery, and excellent games. Jeff over at Frontline gaming wrote on article on this, and it's spot on.

Do not base your preconceptions of the tournament scene on forums or rumor sites. You'll be doing yourself a disservice. It's a wonderful time, and you will meet wonderful artists, gamers, and people. I highly recommend it. I learned so much these past few days from all aspects of the hobby...it will take me quite some time to tell you all of it!

Off To the Nova Open!

Hey Guys! Sorry I haven't posted much this week. The weekend was a wash (had a great party with my friends), so didn't have much time for modeling, painting, or pretty much any hobby stuff.

In happier news, I'm off to NOVA tomorrow, to hopefully meet a bunch of fellow bloggers and have a blast watching dice roll and tiny plastic figures pew pew each other. (my kinda of fun!)

I'm bringing my camera, and my laptop, so will try and blog everyday while I'm there. I'll be hanging with some of the Facing the Grey Tide guys, and particpating in the summary blog with House of Paincakes in the evenings.

I'll be wearing my FYN T-shirt one day, and my Green dakka dakka one the next, so if you see me, please say hello! I visit a lot of blogs, and it would be wonderful to attach some faces to all those beautifully painted miniatures!

Mega Dread WIP, Nova Prep (T-shirts) and Misc

Hey Guys! Bit of a random assortment of stuff today. I did some minor work on the mega dread, ordered some t-shirts for Nova (which came in), and took a photo of some neat texture (and some of my dreads). Crazy exciting I know. It's almost like I was busy prepping for a breakfast for dinner party this week!

First off, Mr Mega. I'm going to doing him a bad moonz color scheme, with lots of weathering. So I'm putting down a brown under layer, that I can hopefully interact with to create some neat effects.

If this fails, at least brown is an excellent color to paint yellow on top of, so my time isn't completely wasted. Should have a good amount of rust on this guy as well. It's quite a detailed model, so I'm trying to avoid just doing a big base coat. Trying to pick out details while I lay down the base.

Dark Eldar Talos Base Painting for Shantz!

Hey Guys! More base painting this week. I recived a large order from Jeff, so I've been taking time setting up bases for units which didn't have them previously. As part of the purchase, I snagged a urban ruin base to paint for Shantz Talos!

I started out with a chaos black priming, then covered the model in a dark grey base coat. I immediately decided this was an awful idea, so then covered the model in devlan mud. I then started painting elements of brick work with Rakarth Flesh.

Mega Dread Base Painted!

Continuing on my quest to actually paint some Orks, I successfully painted the base of the Mega Dread this week. (and the Forge world Biker Bosses base). It's kinda of a habit of mine to paint the bases before the models. It helps keep me motivated! Nothing like having a bunch of cool bases sitting around with no models to put on them to get your juices flowing!

One thing I've slowly learned with minatures...you never really understand the scope of their size until you start painting them. Especially if the last few models you were painting were single infantry sized models. Suddenly jump to something the size of a Imperial Knight base and you can't believe how long it takes to paint everything!

First I started on the base with some Mournfang brown. Quite messy at this point!

Forge World Ork Biker Warboss + Some Priming

Hey guys! Hope you all had a good weekend. I know most of the buzz was about the Space Wolf codex, and the Grey Knight leaks. I hope it's excited you all...if not, don't fret. I'm hoping it'll all make sense once all the codexes receive the same level of "re balancing." I just wish they could figure out a way to do this a bit more globally, instead of slow piece meals. Maybe some day!

In the meantime, I had a pretty long weekend. Went to the zoo, saw some animals, got a little drunk, ate some Maryland blue crabs. All in all a pretty good weekend. This however didn't leave much time for painting.

I did get a chance to finally prime the mega dread...which is much harder then it seems. It's a ton of separate parts, and getting them all primed up was a combination of imperial primer, and chaos black spray.

But that's not all! I also was able to purchase a forge world ork warboss biker from ebay! An actual forgeworld one! I've been trying to get one for ages... Read on to find out more! (Or click dat link thingy)

Grot Hull Point Makers Done!

Time to switch engines for a propa orky one! I got to work this week on finishing up a set of five grots to act as hull points for my gorkanaughts/morkanaughts. It was a fun project, and I'm really happy with the final result!

We'll start out on the full photo. Unlike the previous mock up's of the grots, they are all painted, and fully magnetized to the Dragon Forge Knight base!

Black Templars High Marshall Helbrecht Finished!

Welcome back everyone! Hope you had a good weekend. This past week I finished my final vow for the ETL competition on Bolter and the Chainsword Forums. The last part of my vow was the Black Templar HQ, Helbrecht. Read on to see how I painted up this gorgeous and absolutely painful finecast model!

Like the inquisitor, Helbrecht was one of those models I put off painting, because I was intimidated by the sculpt. To say this model has a lot of detail is a massive understatement.

There are layers upon layers of detail. It doesn't help that the model is practically singularly case (besides the sword and power pack), so separating components into painting sub assemblies isn't possible.

ETL III Completed! Zeal for the Templars!

Quick Saturday post for you all! The ETL has come to an end. I thought you'd like to see a completed photo of the entire painted army I did for this competition (on behalf of the Templars faction). Hope you like it! (Also has a sneak peak of Monday's post, Helbrecht!)

One Storm Talon, 10 Sniper Scouts with Sarg. Counts as Grimaldus, Helbretch, Master of the Forge, Terminator Chaplain, Witch Hunter Inquisitor, and Hunter/Stalker.
