A Fine Cast Techmarine Story and Prepping for ETL

Finally got a techmarine off ebay for a decent price (around 15 bucks). You'd think these guys were made of gold the amount of money people want for them!

The model I picked up was finecast. I've had some poor luck with finecast lately, but decided I didn't want a metal version of the techmarine. The amount of pinning I'd have to do would cause me no end of grief. (I'm horrible at pinning things).

The model I got turned out to be in excellent shape. Only bubbles I could find were in the feet, and the detail was superb.

I washed the resin, and started trying to figure out how to put this guy together. Luckily the web is full of examples, so it wasn't too difficult. After seeing just how many pieces were on the model, I decided to magnetize as much of him as possible.

15mm Leviathan Crusader of Awesomeness!

This week on the workbench, I assembled a crusader, a techmarine, and painted up a comms relay. Been a busy one! Lets jump right into the Crusader.

This is the 15mm Crusader from Dreamforge games. I picked one up during their fantastic sale (prior to the imperial knights release). I wanted a model that was similar to a contemptor dread, as I wanted to play with one (but didn't want to buy one, mainly cause I know they'd come out with a Black Templar one the second I ordered it)

This kit is quite different then your standard GW kits. Pretty much all the joints are posable, and all the pistons move. Because of this, each assembly section takes quite a bit longer then you'd expect. One of the arm joints has nearly a dozen pieces, all which must be fitted just right. Luckily they use screws for the tougher sections, which not only let you set the tension of the joints, but prevent you from making a model destroying super glue mistake.

I would not recommend this kit for a beginning modeler. You'll tear your hair out. It definitely takes patience, but you'll be rewarded.

Dark Eldar and Necron Campaign Begins!

Welcome back! Today I'm going to be talking about and showing the details of a campaign I'm running locally, for Macuthu and Shantz. This campaign has been inspired by the amazing ones run by Matt over at miniwargaming.com

The campaign takes place on Obrillion, (a completely made up world). It's only distinguishing characteristics is that it happens to have an odd power source emitting from it which captures the attention of the two forces which will be clashing on it's soil.

But it is not solely the domain of combat between the Dark Eldar and the Necrons. Someone else lives on the planet as well.....the orks.

I will be trying to run a campaign mission alongside our normal meets. They'll be in their own subsection, and will hopefully grow and expand overtime.

Hunter/Stalker

Today I'm going to be showing off my hunter/stalker build for the Black Templars, and introduce the campaign Macathu and Shantz will be participating in!

Been working on a hunter/stalker lately to spruce up my anti-air. This is a really nice kit. You can easily swap back and forth between either configuration, and it doesn't require crazy magnets or pinning. Technically if you didn't care about the side sections, you could just buy the turret assembles and slap it on any number of rhinos/razorbacks you may have laying around. There is only one piece that doesn't duplicate between sections. The little antenna you see on the hunter missile launcher. I don't think it looks right with the stalkers guns anyway! (and it blocks their rotation!)

Just got back from Pax East! I had a great time meeting new people, playing tons of tabletop, and watching the 40k tournaments take place. I didn't participate myself, but I was able to get a ton of great photos of the beautiful armies presented there!

Finally Spring!!! Thank you for letting me prime my models! I've forgotten what it was like to not wear three layers of clothing everyday! I do think I need to adjust my posting schedule...I feel like I'm rushing home just to paint for the blog...and everyone knows how time disappears when you're painting miniatures.

So got all the buildings primed...well spray painted. There wasn't anyway I was going to use 15 dollar bottles of chaos black primer, so I used two cans (that's how much it took) of krylon matte black.

Priming Day, Battle Mat Review, Necrons, and a Champion

It's finally warm in Maryland! Prime everything! Bring out the spray paint! Then suddenly realize that building terrain drink paint like no others. Out of primer and paint now. Sad days indeed for a plastic pusher of minis!

At least I was able to get 4 of the 6 buildings spray painted. I didn't use primer for this (hope it doesn't bite me in the butt later), but cans of krylon fusion matte black.

You can see the two giant ones in the backround ready for their coats...once I get another can.

I also need to pick up a giant drybrush, and some bulk grey paint.
