Welcome my friends! This week is all about the knights, with a bit of Nova auction fun at the end! Grab your grots and scrap and lets dive right in! Last bits of conversions since we last talked. Someone mentioned the lame imperial exhausts and said I should stompa it up. Well stompa exhausts were expensive...but guess what wasn't expensive...the khorne lord of war super tank choppy extravangza exhausts. Got eight for 3 or 4 dollars. They worked really well to add some height and break up the knighty look. I also fashioned a missile launcher from a taurox kit, and some ork rokkits (it'll show up later in the blog with more pieces). It fit perfectly in the space!

Today is a wonderful day! The Deff Dread is complete. I had to get him to the charity, so had to pick and choose the final hours to spend on him. I concentrated on increasing contrast through panel lines and washes, powders, and metallics. Then went back and had a bit of fun with some different effects...finishing with making sure everything was secured down. I hope you all like him! Remember you can have him for your very own by purchasing a raffle ticket at Nova Open! (all proceeds go to doctors without borders!)
Thanks to the viewership of the blog, (and their constant support), I was able to get many hours of work into the Charity Deff Dread this weekend. It's now only a few hours from being complete. (need to paint some cables, wires, matte spray, then some chip highlights with air steel). I'm so happy with how the dread looks now, as the layers of enamel streaks and washes have pulled out so much texture and detail, that it broke up that monotone bland yellow I had going on. Now it is propa greggles weathered! Here are some shots. (quick update). Will have finished shots/closeups and the knights on thursday! Note: Black section on the back is primer, as i rubbed it off of the metal hose by accident when doing the chipping part. It's just going to be standard belcher + highlight + wash + highlight. I did want to do a lot more things, but I got politely yelled at that they have to have it this week, so it ships out Thursday morning. (which only gives me a scattering of hours longer to work on it). Thanks for stopping by everyone! Hope you like it! Welcome my friends! Bit of a shorter post this week. Had a slew of wedding stuff lately, so time has been a bit restricted! I was able to get working on the enamels, and get some lovely close up shots for you all. I also had some fun working on the renegade ork knights, and coming up with ideas to flush them out. So first off, started with the powders, enamels, and washes. Also got some closer up shots, so everyone can see how deep the chipping detail is. It never really shows up that well at a distance, but boy oh boy is it awesome when you are seeing it in person!
Welcome back friends. Another exciting week of lets watch Greg paint a single model! This week I finally get the dread yellowed up, and start the chipping process. Starting with a semi teaser so people read further...ha you all read anyway, you love the dreads! Admit it!
Welcome to Weathering, with your Host Rusty Greggles! This week was a flurry of activity on tiny sections of the dreads base, and his little grot controller Francis. First just your standard metallics. Bunch of leadbelcher everywhere, being careful to leave some areas which are still dirt. (you'll see why in a bit).
Welcome friends! I'm in full production mode! Since I got past the hobby block of how to successfully mount the Deff dread, I'm been a buzz with activity. Should hopefully have him finished in a week or so to meet my (sorry Dave) late deadline due to my ultra slow painting speeds. First off, here is the final posing. I can still adjust the arms slightly, but pretty much everything else is knocked into place. I'm currently working on trying to figure out the cable from the grot remote to the dread (you can see the wire in the background), but other than that, the build is done!
Short off day post for you all! I forgot to mention that the Nova Open Charity Raffle is now live! Buy your tickets! So many amazing artists have contributed! Including everyone's favorite Mordain7th! But that's not all. Have a Dread update! I worked on finalizing his pose last night. I think i like his arms best like this. This pose is further along, as his other leg, claws, shoulders are now in place. Put a marine in for scale. He's quite intimidating! You can barely see the little grot in front! I'm thinking arm poses from the first set of photos. Thoughts? Welcome friends! Had a great hobby breakthrough this week. Have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to get the deff dread base setup and finished. Finally woke up with an idea and went straight to work! I went to work grabbing some bitz and bubs to both support the main leg section, as well as cover up the gaps in the various sections of the base. Looking like a proper scrapyard base now. Tried to think about things like...how would someone get onto the rhino top? So made sections which they could walk up, and scratch marks from the constant climbing of the gretchin.
Exciting day today everyone! Not only have I been painting like crazy lately, but I finally finished something...and it's my best paint job to date! As I mentioned before, these models are part of a multi-artist donation for the ork army in Nova Open's Army Raffle this year. Tickets are available online (soon), as well as at the event itself. All proceeds go to Doctors without Borders. So please donate! (it's a tax deduction too!)
Welcome one and all to the great "greggles gets his groove back" post. Where I go nuts painting and update more then once a week. Who would have thought! Quick house update! Got a ceiling fan in the hobby room now. Super score! Now just need to patch all that drywall, buy new desks and completely rework it....but that is for another post! Lets talk about bases!
It's Monday! Surprise! Honda is taking a break while he deals with real life issues, so I've got a weekend update for you on the Nova Open stuff! Check it out! I'm on the artist page now! It's for reals! I haven't been leaving in a Mek's dream! :) Also buy tickets. I'm required to say that for the children, puppies, and kittens. But seriously, I have gotten a bit of painting and work time in.
It had to happen eventually. I'd have to sit down, pick up a brush, and go to work. Luckily most of the garage work is done for the time being, so I could finally sit down and prime/highlight a slew of models. I did my normal multi-spray primer (grey all over, then white from above) to get the ork flesh down. Then I also started on the bases, by spraying all the sand the base color. I'm a bit behind in the Nova Open Charity timeline, so hopefully I can catch up fast.
Welcome welcome welcome...to the Greggles home remodeling network. Where I lure you in with talks of orks and hobby, and then quickly throw in some plumbers and dry wall! As you can imagine, this week has been full of doing pretty much everything but hobby. Lacked quite a bit in free time, as most was spent on moving things, cleaning things, or trying to patch holes in walls! But at least the plumber is done with the house pipes now! Lets see what I was able to get to!
Hey everyone! Welcome back. This week was a pretty hobby filled week. Got some work done on my renegade knights, fully cleaned up the deff dread, magnetized, and pinned him all up, and most of the pipes in my house were replaced! Lets get started! As a reminder, the deff dread is for nova open charity. Check it out! He is still missing his main shoulder pauldrons (or whatever they are called), but he is cleaned up and ready for paint. I tried to do a super man pose, as he is just taking off, and I'd imagine the mek/boy inside is quite proud of himself at having the only "flying" deff dread. I also had a funny idea (no idea if I will implement it) at having a grot holding a remote control on the base, with a very very very short cable.
I just have to figure out exactly how I'm going to mount him on a base. I have a few ideas. |
