Dreadtober 2015 Ends with 65% Completed! Go Community Go!

11/2/2015

Hey Guys! Sorry I've been a bit lacking in posting this month.  #dreadtober has sucked up all my hobbytime allottment.  But I am excited to announce that it was an incredible success!  We reached 65% complete, with 48 participants!  This just blows my mind, as there wasn't a prize or contest at the end...this was just the community encouraging and supporting each other to paint!  So well done all of you!

When Todd, Mike, John, and I originally envisioned this event, we had no idea it would take off the way it would.  Never doubt the community when dreads are on the line!  It's really awesome to see, and really reminds us about how great this community is!

It's also taught me a few lessons.
1) Don't try to run a painting event while painting.  It doesn't work out very well.
2) Updating 40+ participants takes WAY more time then you think it will.
3) Everyone in the community is crazy super awesome!

As such, if you made the Nov 1 cutoff, and are sitting in the master list of #dreadtober, you can contact me on twitter @3dgreg (or leave a note in disqus to have me email you or vice versa) for a special thanks from misterjustin @ secret weapon mini's for participating.

If you want to see the dreads in their latest states, click the #dreadtober logo, search #dreadtober on twitter, or just search #dreadtober on google.  Otherwise, here is a quick selection of all the dreads in their stages as of today.  If you continue to work on your dreads, and use the dreadtober tag (or at least @3dgreg me on twitter or in the comments), I will make sure your dread is updated until we eventually reach 100% finished, even if its not October anymore.  Thank you all so much for participating!
Thanks again everyone!

DreadTober 2015 Secret Surprises Galore!

10/20/2015

Comments

Welcome back to another #dreadtober update friends and dread aficionados!  This mini update brings a few surprises into the mix!  As always, please check out the #dreadtober page to see all the mega updates that everyone is cranking out!
Picture
So the first secret surprise is...I thought it would be fun to reward everyone in some manner or form for participating in this little community event, even though there was no contest, and no prizes...You all jumped in full bore and showered the net with dreads.  I am so amazed by the community supporting each other, it's been great.  So I had a chat with misterjustin from

DreadTober Participation Passes Forty Artists!

10/16/2015

Comments

Just a quick note to let everyone know that #dreadtober has passed forty members, which is pretty amazing considering this is just a fun event to share everyone's styles with one another.  No real update from me this week, as I have been spending most of my allocated blogging time updating the #dreadtober pages daily.  We've had a few finished dreads already, and it is looking like an absolutely amazing success!  Thank you all for participating and cheering on your fellow blogger/twitterer/artists!

Special thanks again to Todd, Mike, and John for helping get this started!  Check daily for more updates to #dreadtober!

DreadTober Update: 33+ Participants! Greggles Grabs a Kan!

10/10/2015

Comments

Welcome #dreadtober enthusiasts! Sorry for the lack of updates.  Been having so real life stuff pop up (all good stuff!) as well as becoming addicted to metal gear solid V.  At least that was walkers in it, so it's a bit of an inspiration at the same time :)

Have to take a moment here and applaud Todd's awesome logo he created for the event.  It's been a driving force for the group of participants, and has rallied the cause, showing up all over the googles! Todd is DA MAN!  Before I get started, remember that this is just "my update" to dreadtober, and not the main dreadtober page.  Dreadtobers main page can be accessed via this button, or by clicking the awesome logo!

Blogger Painting Event: DreadTober! (All Bloggers Invited)

9/29/2015

Comments

Hey Guys! It's time for a blogger special event! The DreadTober!  While we were at Nova, a group of us bloggers discussed how wonderful it was to see everyones different paint styles, and how it might be fun to have us all paint something similar, and see what each comes up with.  Not so much a true competition, but just for fun.  So we came up with DreadTober!

Photo/Drawing/Logo by Todd @ Sincain40k
The rules are simple.  Create a dreadnought in your paint style for the month of october.  Try to restrain yourself to dreadnought scale (contemptor and smaller, scratchbuild fine), but since this isn't really a competition, nobody is going to get angry if you go nuts and lets say, build an imperial knight pyramid in the shape of a giant jackolatern or something. (*Glances at John*).

Updates will be posted on this blog, and other blogs, and we'll have a finished page of everyone's entries, linking back to their blogs on FYN (I think or someones website).  Just a fun little event to get everyone motivated and to share in the painting excitement!

The main point of this exercise, is just to enjoy each others painting style and see what everyone comes up with.  Whether it's John's controlled clean weathering, Todd's careful blends, Greggles and his spilling powders all over his model and calling it done, Mikes colorful compositions etc etc.  I just realized I haven't seen Nils do a vehicle outside of bolt action so now I'm super excited.   Look for #dreadtober on twitter, or any dreadtober tags on facebook/blogs to follow along.  You can also visit the main dreadtober site by clicking the main image, or the button below.  I will try to update this three times a week.
