Finally working on my own army again. Painting the Master of the Forge (techmarine with servo harness). What an enormously detailed model. I just love this sculpt. The layers of detail are both amazing, and frustrating at the same time (I'm using the smallest brushes I have!)
It took me awhile to settle on the scheme for him. I wanted him to share in the standard scheme of techmarines from mars, but also have black armor. I settled on the reds from the rest of my armor as the highlights to the black armor (instead of standard grey/white armor highlights). It came out extremely menacing. It's been quite a chore to get the lines on there sharply. I've done by best with the tools available to me!
I haven't decided what to do with the bolter yet. I thought about replacing it with a plasma pistol, so he could fire both the TL plasma cutter, and the pistol as well for a little bit of extra kick.
I haven't started working on the harness yet (it's all magnetized, so I can just attach it later). Wanted to get the center body done first.

I ended up damaging the back of the axe when I was working, so I just removed it. I think I like it a bit better this way. A happy mistake for once.
Tracing the tabard and hoses on this model is quite a chore. Thanks to everyone who has ever painted this model, and posted photos of their work online. It's been invaluable reference to figuring out which hose is going where.

I noticed while painting this model (always too late), I missed mold lines, bits of flash ,etc. My tools just aren't cutting it anymore. Time for some upgrades!

I got a new knife, files, pin vise, mould line scraper, drills, and a new bit cutter. Originally I wasn't going to get the GW cutter, until I saw an excellent deal on ebay (roughly the same cost of the flash cutters I was looking at), so I snagged it.
I've been quite happy with it so far. It is expensive, but it also works quite nicely, and looks good to boot. Was it a mistake? Only time will tell! I'll have a better review once I get some good time behind the tools.

Last but not least, I finished the dragonforge bases for my ETL vow. Ten bases for the scouts, one base for the master of the forge, and a base for the storm talon. I matched them to the scheme of my other bases. They really help the darker templar paintjobs shine.
