Welcome back internet warriors! Instead of complaining about things in 7th edition, I continued painting. Well as much painting as I could do until my power went out! My main objective this week was using the airbrush a bit more.
So I went to town with the airbrush. I layered on lighter greys, followed by some white highlights. I like to call them highlights. In reality they are more like "oooh it sprayed close to where I wanted it too!". My skills with the airbrush are pretty low at this point, but I figure terrain is very forgiving, considering I haven't even tried to paint any of this stuff since I've had it.
I then when back through with some of GW's drybrush paints, and just hit up a few spots. I'm currently looking for an economical wash for the surfaces, as I feel it will help blend and pull things together.
So far the biggest pots I've found are the MIG washes, and the army painter tones. If anyone has a suggestion for bulk washes, please leave a comment.

I did learn a few important lessons during this session.
1. Soap and water are not sufficient to clean an airbrush.
2. Do not squeeze a vallejo air dropper bottle when no paint comes out. You are going to have a BAD time.
So I couldn't get the copper to come out suddenly. Turns out there was a chunk of dried paint in the bottle. I squeezed, and it EXPLODED all over the airbrush, and my back porch. Including chunks of paint, which then jammed up the airbrush. So my copper attempts were shot down quickly, and I got kinda of a patchy coverage. Hoping some of that new weathering washes will help with that. We'll see! At least they don't look like grey plastic or primed black anymore.

On the black Templar front, I started painting the storm talon. I followed a similar base strategy to the hunter/stalker. Chaos black primer, Dark grey airbrushing from above, followed by a vallejo black wash.
The vallejo wash doesn't act like badab black, and dries very splotchy. At first this horrified me...then I realized it really helps break up the black, and gives the vehicles a really nice gritty look. (embrace mistakes!)

I took a bit more time to make sure I pulled the wash in directions air would travel. It worked for the most part, giving streaks and splotches across the model. Definitely not a standard smooth black anymore.
Other then that, I started laying down the base color blocking, and metallics. I decided to do this first vs the edge highlighting, as I ended up ruining some of my edgework last time when I put the color down. Sometimes the things you learn aren't necessary an improvement in skill, as an improvement in time!
So still a lot more work to do on the storm talon. But it's coming along!
