Building a Fun Themed 1850 Point Ork List for LVO

9/8/2014

Comments

Hey guys! Welcome to the blog (if you are new here!).  Been a wild weekend since we got featured on faeit 212 and then it comes to monday, and Dave over at 40k addicts featured a post about the blog that literary brought tears to my eyes.  I didn't really have much to talk about this monday (after doing one post every day last week), but thought I should at least say a thanks, and talk about upcoming things I'll be working on.

Hot on the heels of NOVA, I've gone ahead and booked a room at the LVO in las vegas, run by frontline gaming.  Figure that way I'll get a taste of the east and west coast tournament scene.  I'm still waiting on the types of events going on (tournament wise), but hope to bring an Ork list.  It's ork walkers, because there wasn't enough of those at Nova. (but quite a few green tides!)
Why orks instead of black templars?  For some reason I always have fun playing the orks.  I don't get caught up when tons of them die, or things explode.  I go into games expecting to draw, or lose, so any other result is just a pleasant surprise.  I think their very nature lends to fun game play.  I'm also taking the templar tanks as a basis for my experimentation with airbrushing and various techniques.  I have a lot of rhinos.  A lot.

So I came up with a really cool theme'd list that will work with Narrative, trios, and tournament play. (Nova or LFO/BAO).  The overall army also works within my goals to present a display, and possibly create a centerpiece to enter into some competitions.

It's all about Tuska! (The below art is from Jason Juta, click the image to visit his awesome site)

For those who don't feel like reading the background of Tuska...he is basically an ork warboss who lead a waaagh on a daemon world.  He ended up facing off with a daemon prince, and just as he was about to die, his weird boyz distracted the prince, and he ripped out the princes genitals with his power claw.

This upset the prince quite a bit. :)  He then decided that Tuska's punishment would be to have him, and his army, brought back to life after they were slain, to be forever fighting the daemons.  If any of you know any of the back history of orks, that is the ork equivalent of vahalla. (orks only live for battle)

Well thanks to the wonders of 7th edition, and the new codex, I finally have an opportunity to bring Tuska back for a visit.

Ork walkers? You must be nuts Greg.  I am!  I'm an ork player!  The idea combines a few ideas.  First off, it's a bit spammy.  But it's orks, so it's not as if having three deff dreads is overpowered. :)  The reason behind the spam is actually part of the painting/building process.  Each segment of the army (in the trios), is a different clan.  One will be bad moons, one will be evil sunz, and one (still debating), will either be goffs or deffskulz. (leaning towards deffs)

I feel this will allow me to unify the army in a variety of fun ways.  Sort of an inter-competition between the three parts to see which can do the most damage.  The main point of the weirdboys is just to die horribly, and turn into greater daemons.   The greater daemon will be the center piece, which will be a gigantic ork warboss to represent tuska.  Other daemons will be converted into crazy looking orks, to represent any of the other orks pulled from the daemon world still fighting.

It's basically an excuse to let me paint a ton of cool conversions, daemons, and walkers.  I'm going to be really setting a plan for this army, using some other blog examples of being all organized (Mordian's excellent spreadsheet system for example).
It's going to be quite a bit of work, but I do have till February to get most of the army together. We'll see if I can do it!  Until then here is some shots for our games this weekend!
New frontline battle mat for Macathu, as his 1850 point necron's faced Bill's Nids (skyblight).  We had to end at the bottom of 4, with the nids winning just by linebreaker.  Was a really close battle!  (I really need to write up some bat reps again soon).

Thanks for stopping by and visiting everyone! Hope you are having a great start to your week!
