Welcome my friends. Short update this week. Normally Wednesday is my big painting day, but Horizons Zero Dawn came out on Tuesday...so I just played it on Wednesday instead of painting. Oops! I was able to finish up the bases, and come up with a repeatable scheme. As you saw in the previous post, I painted the bases with a variety of metallics, varnished them, washed them, and then dry brushed a sharp highlight on them. This was to prepare for the powder stage. The models have not been varnished yet, which is why those shoulder pads are super shiny. I wanted them to be a bit more nurgly, so I did something really crazy. I threw some enamels on and then washed them at the same time. It created this odd bulbous effect which gave them a lot of deep texture and interest. It worked on about 80% of them...two models the wash dried in an odd way, so they will probably be the first to die in combat for aesthetic reasons :). I also need to do eyes on some of the models, weapon highlights, and do the weapons completely on the champion. Hopefully will have this done by next week, but it is very busy schedule in the Greggles household lately. (It's Sarah's Bday!) So back to the bases. After they were all setup with the sharp highlight, I took terracotta earth, violet, rust brown/red/orange and applied them on the bases with a stippling method. Then I used Secret Weapon (this is also their powders) Fallout wash to mix the powders together and blend them. On certain sections, I let the wash settle, as it gives a strong vibrant green, which when varnished, gives you just this very subtle hint of something else going on these old space hulk hulls. I'm very pleased with them! I hope you all like them as well. Short update, but I will hopefully have more for you next week. Have a great week everyone!
