Welcome back friends! This week showcases the first squad of the finished deathguard. Meanwhile Sincain40k has produced nearly half his army, making even Mordain7th raise an eyebrow! :) I beat Horizon Zero Dawn (Awesome awesome game), which let me get back to the hobby stuff, just in time for adepticon! So starting with the finished product first (minus the parts that were still drying because I was too excited how it was coming out :) ). Since these guys are going on a tablewar case for transport, I decided to try weathering up their slotted base section. It worked somewhat well...bit difficult due to just the powders not liking a completely flat and smooth surface. (should have thrown down a slew of texture paint first). But basically, primed, sprayed a bunch of metals down (similar to base, providing variance in tone), then just stippled powders down, then stippled wash down. (yes I said stippled wash). Made a lovely plate :) So here comes the squad. First the champion. Not 100% pleased with the scythe. I wanted it a bit more blended...first time painting plasticcard, and didn't realize one side had a tiny lip that would catch the washes. Drove me nuts. So I just played around with different washes and metallic medium until it looked somewhat cool from a tabletop distance :) Also not the biggest fan of the FW shoulder piece. It's a lot less sharp then the plastic ones. I may just swap back to plastic for the champions, and use a different decal there. The plasma guys came out pretty nice. Love the glow I got off their guns. Thought about doing some minor OSL, but then I thought...what if I swap their weapons later? All the shoulders will have decals after I pick them up from FW at adepticon! Bolter squad members. Deathguard like to shoot more then chop. :) You can see some of the nurgle variance in the shoulder pads on some of these. There is a lot of layers on the pads (even though they look really smooth from a distance). Tried to get a wee bit of more nurgle inspiration in there. The fellow on the right...I accidentally dropped some alcohol on his head right after I had finished everything. Ate all the way through to the primer. I did a decent job building it back up, but he's got a weird dirt halo now. Note: Keep alcohol away from models. (happened during airbrush cleaning!) And the last few. Love matte varnish so much! And just to tie it all together. Here is the whole group again. I should have video'd myself stippling powder all over the surface. It was quite fun (but also quite messy!). Hope you all like them!
