This week's post is going to be a fair bit about works in progress. If you've been following our crazy little adventure, you'll know that we've just finished Part I of a three part narrative track featuring Apocalypse battles.
The first part featured four players, each fielding 3,000 point armies. Part II will up the ante, each player committing to fielding 4,000 points as we look to mix things up a bit and expand the overall scope of the story.
In previous posts, I indicated that I was putting together a wraithknight, hence all the "giants" stuff.
I'll just say this now, I knew they were bigger models, certainly not Titan sized, but I had no idea how big "big" was going to be.

Once I got the legs and torso together, my imagination started running away with little toy soldier dialogues along the lines of:
Private: Uh, sarge, where do you want me to put the lascannon?
Sergeant: Well, Gronski, do you see that thing over there trying to hide behind the four story building?
Private: Uh, yessir!
Sergeant: Point it that way and take that thing down. Understood?
Sergeant: Well, Gronski, do you see that thing over there trying to hide behind the four story building?

So I can foresee building some taller LOS blocking terrain at some point to help keep this guy around longer than the first turn due to extremely bright sunlight and lascannons, but mostly lascannons.
I would also like to applaud GW for the engineering behind this kit. Besides the fact that it goes together extremely well, it's very clear to me that they put a lot of thought behind how all the pieces go together in order to arrive at the final effect. They've done a great job of covering over model seams with plates, or sticking them out of LOS in a way that really makes putting this kit together a real joy.
So Bravo GW, please do play on!

And now, we shift scenes and send in the clowns...
I'm sorry, I don't care if these guys are "competitive" or not. They are just too cool. Also, I'm not trying to stomp on other people's opinions, but I think it's way too early in the game to start pigeon-holing a brand new army that's never seen the table.
Also, I've never considered myself susceptible to the "bright and shiny" syndrome that sometimes drives our hobby, but I do have to say that for some reason, this new addition really resonates with me. I don't know if it's the painting challenge they offer, the sculpts, or just trying to figure out how to make them work in the context of our games and my army. I have definitely become rather enthralled with their potential.
So I have shifted my position from "cautiously curious" to "Ok, let's budget for these" as I am definitely planning on figuring out how to add some jumping clowns to the dead men walking theme I currently have going on.
These guys just look too wild and crazy to ignore for me.
