This week I attempt to actually do something. That's right, I'm just posting theories and photos. I actually glued something. There may be paint involved! (Or at least primer). So to start off with...lets talk about what I'm working on this very second. I picked up a base pack from secret weapon. It's got a nice selection of differing flock sizes (of grit). From slate pieces, to very fine sand. Fit perfectly in some 2 ounce jello shot containers (from the previous post :) ).
I'm currently waiting for glue to dry on these guys. Then priming, and working on opposing color palettes (one for daemon orks, one for normal orks).

I also have a selection of badlands bases from dragonforge. I want to try and avoid using resin bases if possible though, but I think if I spruced them up with other bitz and flock/grit, I wouldn't be docked as many points. It's hard to tell though, army judging is very different then model judging!
This is what one looks like painted up with my old scheme. I think i will spray a pair, and experiment with sprucing them up, then have a big compare, and see what everyone thinks!
Speaking of bases, here's the set of bases I'm going to be using for the James Wappel shaded basecoat technique. (Along with some marines I had laying about [bolters are for weak! CCW and BP!]. Zab has already been using this technique to great effect. (if you want to see someone who paints at a pace faster then a servitor)
I actually used some vallejo surface primer on some of these (in the airbrush). It worked great. I tried to brush it on...didn't work so well. I was getting sick of the chaos white spray completely cracking everytime I used it.

Ug! Come on! I shook the can forever...made sure humidity was low, temp was right...no dice. Why Skull White spray? WHY DO YOU HATE ME???

Two final things! First off, here is how the tuska model is looking as a base. He's a bit weedy (next to standard black reach warboss). I thought he was going to be bigger. Sometimes I think model reviewers have tiny hands. Maybe that is why I have such trouble painting...giant ape hands!
I've decided one way to give him decent bulk, is to put him on a flying stand (like a landspeeder). Chop off his legs, green stuff some stormtalon thrusters on the nubs. Stormraven engine and tiny wings on his back...kinda of like a really messed up stormboy. He's been fighting daemons for thousands of years, so I figure he'd be a bit messed up.

Last! Does anyone need a set of ork data cards? I accidentally ordered two originally, as I figured the LGS wouldn't get them...so I double ordered from both GW and the LGS and ended up with two sets. Be happy to sell for the actual price (8 bucks plus shipping, probably 11?) if someone wants them!
