Welcome back, fellow finger stabbers! This week I continue my quest to try and get my charity donation underway. Bit boring, but necessary work has to be done!
First off, I finally put together my Black Maria Designs Hobby Rack. I got the prototype nearly a year ago, and I was just that lazy...(and also didn't quite have the space). Works great for holding my secret weapon washes (and soon acrylics) . Todd and Sean just came up with an extra tier to fit all the AK products, so I'll be purchasing that soon to reclaim even more table space!
So the main work I've been doing, is the hobby tedious work of scraping mould lines, flashing, filling gaps, and magnetizing. It is very annoying work on the grots, as the mouldlines are ultra tiny and it's easy to scrape them up and ruin detail if you aren't careful.
I don't know if I ever covered how I do this, but since this is now my 4th or 5th deff dread, I felt I'd chime in! Prior to gluing the main body together (unless you are past greg, who did this out of excitement, when immediately cursed his excitement) , you would make a pin hole, (i use mini hand dremel for this, with a drill bit that is actually the size of a standard paperclip diameter), then widen the hole with a drill bill the diameter of the magnet you are using.

After that, you match up the polarity with your other weapons (i keep a spare set of deff dread weapons, which I always match the polarity on, allowing any of the dreads the ability to swap weapons). Then slap some green stuff on the inside, and push the magnet in far enough to create a lip for the opposite magnet to attach to. Throw some super glue in for good measure. Allow to dry!
This particular deff dread, I am only magnetizing the secondary weapons, and pinning the arms and legs. Though the sheet calls for it to have double megablasta's, I find those are horrible on deff dreads, so will also include some flamers :).
So the theme for this army is an ork airforce...so I thought it would be wicked fun to strap a bunch of storm talon engines onto the back of the deff dread. It looks absolutely ridiculous, so just perfect for orks! I was able to order a set from ebay, so will be making power cables and covering them with random armor plates to sell the look a bit more. Going to try and find some tiny winglets to strap to the legs as well. Should be a fun build, and fun to paint as well!
This also came earlier this week...I was a bit worried it would sell out (didn't realize it wasn't a limited run, though that still seems oddly rumored), so was able to pick one up for roughly 25% with free shippin off ebay. (sorry FLG, I thought they'd sell out!). As a reminder that you get what you pay for, this is how the box arrived, left on my door step... Maybe it's just me, but two imperial knights sitting on a porch is mighty enticing! Put your products in a box people!
These two knights (assuming it is allowed in narrative) will fill out the rest of my dread mob, in a way I could never do with the stompa. (basically two mini stompas). It's funny because i don't really have the points to give them guns, so might just go crazy giving them insano looking ork death killer combat weapons! GIANT CHOPPAAAAAAAAAAAAA
