It's Monday! Surprise! Honda is taking a break while he deals with real life issues, so I've got a weekend update for you on the Nova Open stuff! Check it out! I'm on the artist page now! It's for reals! I haven't been leaving in a Mek's dream! :) Also buy tickets. I'm required to say that for the children, puppies, and kittens. But seriously, I have gotten a bit of painting and work time in. From the modeling front, I finally figured out a solution for the deff dread engines. I had two giant gaping holes back there, and my modeling skills aren't up to snuff...so I made a green stuff bridge, then found some cables I had bought from dragonforge design. Snipped away, and started plopping them into the green stuff. I immediately screwed up and they ended up tilted to the side. Then I thought...hey orks! Maybe one engine ends up with more power transfer then the other, so the dread is constantly trying to compensate and flies in odd half loops. Makes sense to me! I attempted to create some crappy welding along the edges. It should look pretty decent once primer hits them. Pretty satisfied at this point. Now just have to get the base done... Started putting down the yellows on the gretchin and runt herder. The squib is coming out awesome, though still figuring out the tongue color. Blue maybe? Also debating on the shirt for the runt herder. Either black shirt/yellow fluffy, or black fluffy, yellow shirt and black pants. Hmm. I think I just decided on #2. I also put some metallics on the bases, but not enough to show off yet. I'll have that for Thursday. Here is my emperors children recipe as promised. For the undercoat, it's black primer, then black metal, then gun (for raised surfaces), then alumnium on the upper surfaces facing the light. I am also trying steel. Last one was with steel, this one was with aluminum (recommend by Dave Taylor for that one!). For the plates, three coats of druchi violet. Balthasar gold for the detail, then sycorax bronze. (I don't like gold). Will experiment with some slight weathering on the bronze. Will see if I like it or not! I was able to get them undercoated yesterday, so here is some shots of the latest pre wash batch. You can see they look really shiny and bright from above, but as you swing down, the pre-shading really showcases all the shadow and depth of the plates. Hoping the actual 30k guys look amazing. We will see! That's it for the quick update. More on Thursday! Have a great week everyone!
