But maybe not until next week.
Hehe ok, I'll give you a zoomed out shot!
Hold onto your hats ladies and gentlemen, it's a big hobby update this week. I finished one display shelf, and started work on the second, painted up a dakkajet, gorkanaut, and mega dread with the chipping method, experimented with enamels, and even started on some lootas and mega nobz! So lets jump right into it shall we? After I finished rusting up the display shelf, I felt it blended too much into display...and wasn't eye catching at all...hmm I need to test this chipping method...so lets bad moon it up! This immediately makes the shelf extremely eye catching, and really drives in the fact that the cart is also my display! You are probably wondering...wow greg. How does this even work? Well here you go! A video of the magic! (warning, I say shit...er crap I mean) So when I last left you all with the display, I had just put a base coat, and airbrushed mournfang brown on the elevated surfaces. On the left here, I then went back with two levels of dry brush, first a baneblade brown, then a rekishflesh (whatever you spell it). I was so giddy at this step, as the board just came to life and all the hardwork started paying off. Then on the right, I wedged it into it's final place, and used THREE bottles of army painter strong wash (matches devlan mud perfectly), so that the display would perfectly sync with the dread bases. And here is the final product! I am so enormously pleased with how it came out. It worked so flipping well I can't even tell you. But that was just the start of this hobby week! Next up I re-armed the mega dread, changed a morkanaut into another gorkanaut (morks stink), put the top coats on the second gork and meka dread (bringing them in line with the rest of the mobs), built 15 lootas, taped and primed them all, started washing all the extra orks, assembled in sub assemblies a bunch of mega nobz, primed and base coated them. (Some of these are a bit out of order, but this update is massive!) Next it was time for the big guns. Time to actually do some models. No idea how this was all going to work out, so lets just go for it. I picked the dakkajet as a first try. Two browns to cover the old colors, then chipping fluid, then yellow, then brighter yellow! Then water to chip away! Though it came out exceptionally well...there was some pretty big chips. I decided to have some fun, and add various colors of powders and washes into the plan, which broke up a lot of the yellow/brown singular tones. The base of the flyer will be the same as the other dreads. Just hasn't come yet! (might be selling some of these old bases!). The effect of the color isn't as strong in photos, but really looks awesome at tabletop distance. These aren't competition models, so I'm slightly more sloppy then if I was trying to be all super precise. I still wasn't 100% happy with it. It was too yellow. So I had some AK enamels (rust streaks and grim streaks) which had just arrived. I decided to give them a shot. Put a dab and a little line in the first image, take some mineral spirits and pull down in the middle. Va la. Awesome streaks really fast! End product looks like this! Looks pretty BAD ass. Will still eventually do some more weathering on the guns/engines, but good enough for tabletop! Did you think I was done? How bout the second shelf of the cart? The lower display board! (Thanks Sarah!). Day 0, Day1, and Day 2 (taken this am, which is why it is all warm colored) And the moment you've all been waiting for!!!!!!!! But maybe not until next week. Hehe ok, I'll give you a zoomed out shot! Still a ton of work to do on them. More updates next week (along with more big guys!). Thanks so much for visiting, and your constant comments and support! It means the world to me and keeps me going at a John Stiening pace!
