I eventually plan to cover him in a bit of soot, with his goggles wiped off, as he would constantly be caught in the backwash of the engines as the "flying" dread hops back and forth.
Welcome friends! I'm in full production mode! Since I got past the hobby block of how to successfully mount the Deff dread, I'm been a buzz with activity. Should hopefully have him finished in a week or so to meet my (sorry Dave) late deadline due to my ultra slow painting speeds. First off, here is the final posing. I can still adjust the arms slightly, but pretty much everything else is knocked into place. I'm currently working on trying to figure out the cable from the grot remote to the dread (you can see the wire in the background), but other than that, the build is done! Primed everything, and put base coats on. The base looks AWESOME. Love when primer finally hits a base. Suddenly makes perfect sense!. The dread looks gold right now, but that is actually umber. It's the base coat for the stippling effects laid out by Joe for the nova army. The remote grot (who i just love to death), I did with my layered primers, black, grey, and white. I forget where I got this model (stompa kit?) but he is just perfect for this build. Not only is he wearing goggles, but hearing protection! I'm going to do another coat of green on him before I start on the rest of him. I haven't decided on the lenses (either blue or red), will decide based on what I do with the dreads viewport. You can see where I cut the stock cable on his back (and drilled a careful hole) to run another wire. I tried the cat5/coaxial wire. It didn't give me the effect I wanted. I eventually plan to cover him in a bit of soot, with his goggles wiped off, as he would constantly be caught in the backwash of the engines as the "flying" dread hops back and forth. Here is the base with the second dry brush on the sand. I also re base coated the rocks, as you are supposed to build up from black with them. (oops). Base is ready for metallics now. The rocks are standing out a bit much, so I will probably go back over them with a very light drybrush of the base colors of the sand to tie them in a bit more. That's it for now. Hope to have the base done by Thursdays post! Thanks for stopping by!
