Supa Kannon, Runt Bot, Organization Done!

6/25/2014

Comments

Welcome back my fellow hobbyist friends!  This week I've been working on assembling my ork runt bot and ork Supa kannon...which I am finding out is a horrible recast.  I've also finished my reorganization (in terms of moving and furniture), and now just await my paint trays!

Picture
The ork runtbot is a pretty cool model.  It's a shame no rules were ever released for it.  I was hoping to possibly use it as either a mega-armored warboss, or a deff dread.  It's a bit small for a deff dread though (here it is on a 60mm base).  I also don't like the default pose which is very hunched over.  It's hard to see any of the models details.

Picture
There we go!  Lift the right leg up a bit, and the default twist still works, only now you can actually see the models face!  I'll have to incorporate some sort of base feature to raise him up like this.

I saw another blog use infantry bases for a similar purpose.  It's a good gauge of how high you need something to be, as they are readily available if you've been doing this hobby for any length of time.  If you ever need a base for anything, talk to your friends.  They probably have piles of them!

Picture
Quick size comparison for you guys.  He's roughly the size of a killa kan in terms of height and width (but not bulk).  You could "probably" use him as a deff dread, as long as you spoke to your opponent ahead of time.  By the way, if you guys ever get a cool model that isn't very common, please post comparison size shots.  It's so difficult finding these on the web!

Finished assembling most of the ork supa kannon.  I'll probably use it as a fun kill kannon substitution.  We'll see!  I got mine for roughly 20 bucks off ebay, so I figured it was going to be a recast...and boy was I right.

How do you identify a recast?  The resin thickness is not uniform by any means.  It goes thin in some parts, and thick in others, sometimes on the same panel.  This makes magnetizing or working with the model extremely difficult.

Picture
That being said...this was a heck of a lot cheaper then actually trying to get the model.

Another good way to identify a recast?  It's too cheap. :)

In fairness, my runtbot had some casting issues and thin resin...and it came in a sealed FW bag!

Picture
The detail on the kannon is pretty amazing.  I love the ridiculous scale of it.

It came with a few grots which I'll be using as hull point markers on all my vehicles.  (idea stolen from another blog!).  Just place four grots on the battle wagon magnetized...four hull points.  Remove as needed!  Fluffy and way better then a dice that constantly falls off or gets misplaced.

Picture
Last but not least, the completed reorganization.  New bookcases, new glass cabinets, new desks.  Now there is more room around the gaming table, more sitting area, more hobby area, and can easily access the models!  Plus they'll get a lot less dust in the cabinets (the nicely painted ones go there!).

Picture
I'm still organizing the right side, but pretty much everything is there.  The models on the left on my buddies.  I didn't paint them (many by blue table painting).  He has a daemon and nid army because he loves close combat.  (he's been said since 6th edition).

Thanks for stopping by guys! I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy reading yours!
