The Stompa Meets a Revenant Titan @ Sincain40k! (Bat Rep?)

2/11/2015

Comments

Orks are constantly looking for a bigger, better fight.   Especially onces jammed inside of walkers with nothing else to do.  So I took the stompa and the crew over to sincain40k's for a Eldar vs Ork super bash!  Little I did a know, Todd brought a big friend to introduce the Stompa too!

Wait..are those ranged D weapons?
More friendly LVO practice...and as you might guess, practice at enjoying yourself in all gaming situations! :) . I was also able to get some oranges on the gorkanaut.  I couldn't get to the stompa in time (that will be for an tuesday post next week, with a case review!), but I was able to seal sixteen walkers when the temp was 50F+.  All that is left is pinning a few models to bases, and travelling to Las Vegas!
Lets start off with what I got done hobby wise.  I mainly did two things this past week.  Orange up the Gorkanaut, and Seal the entire army (minus stompa) with sealer.
The rust really pepped up the gorkanaut.  As Todd pointed out though...I am in dire need of contrast!  I think I'm actually going to visit up some of the rust layers once more (now that they are sealed on) with some greens and blues to add some color variance.  Then its chipping time!  You might have seen it last week, but the texture close up is really cool.
Really excited to get some colors on top of this and go to town, but that will have to wait.  There is not enough time to even start that process before LVO.  For now I am going to just hold off with them as they are.  I hope my opponents aren't too disappointed.  They look mostly brown right now, even though it is a ridiculous amount of time put into them!

I'm hoping to put some weathering powders on the other walkers (the original paint scheme) to try and bring them in line with these guys.  I ordered another set of killa kans, as I feel my nova list will just be Two CAD's with a stompa. (6 kans, gorkanaut, mega dread, meka dread, two deff dreads, stompa, bunch of grots and big mek).  Well enough about the walkers, onto the blogger battle!

I met Todd at Nova along with the awesome FTGT guys.  If you haven't checked out their blogs, I highly recommend you do.  I'm their #1 fan...but then I'm everyone's number 1 fan cause I freaking love mini's!  (If you couldn't tell, this is gonna have a lot of photos, cause Todd is an amazing painter.  Part of my visit was just to learn tips from him!)
So Todd invited me over for a royal rumble, so I could test my LVO list against a more competitive list, to both see how it does, and to see how I'd handle another super heavy.  It was definitely a fun game!  We started out with the standard missions, and rolled Big Guns Never Tire.  Can you guess how many heavy support choices I had on the board?
So after the last game, I learned I should lead with my heavier AV walkers...as the killa kans die way to fast to be useful (WAY too fast).  I deployed aggressively, and across the board so I could try to push the eldar into a corner.  Todd went first, reserving his war walkers, and some vector dancing flyer that shot pain.  For warlord traits, I got night fighter, Todd got something about dancing and singing songs.  I tried to seize and rolled a 1.  Yeah!!!!!
Todd didn't really move much of his units around.  He just made sure he had los to the stompa, then proceeded to fire "twin pulsars".  I like to call them orange death templates, because he has an awesome eldar template marker he would have me hold over the stompa every time he fired it.

Pew Pew Pew.   The pulsar shots land.  Two scatter way off...two hit, with one also hitting the gorkanaut.  Failed my invuln saves (5++) on the stompa, took 6 hull points to the face.  Gork made his cover save! FEW!  No ork death turn 1!  I expected far worse, but the dice were not with Todd.
The orks move forward, in their lumbering slow mechanicalness.  Because being slow is what a walker list is about.  I hope to bore my opponent into letting me reach close combat.  Then it's all over!  The ork shooting phase was hilarous.  3d6 shots? Wow exclaimed the eldar...2 hit.  I think the entire ork firing line did 1 or 2 hull points to eldar vehicles.  But then we got to the stompa.

The stompa completely missed with his giant template.  He did NOT miss with his rokkit's and guns.  They ripped through the revanants shield, and did three hull points to him.  I think I did a point to a serpent.  Who knows!
So I'm feeling pretty good at this point.  Todd's shooting hasn't done nearly the damage I thought it would have done.  Pretty much everything is still alive (minus a killa kan or two).  All of his reserves come on, because he's really good at some sort of eldar singing and dancing.

Then the shooting phase starts.  Ork walker lovers, you may want to turn away.  Maybe skip to the bottom part of the blog post where there is a cat riding a dinosaur.

So Todd began firing.  First he fired two pulsars.  They both hit the stompa.  He rolled two 6's, and did 6 + D6 hull points...twice over.  Other pulsars fire out, are ineffective vs the mega dread.   BOOM goes the stompa.  (The big mek died as well) The fancy flyer I made fun of? Shoots once, pens the side of the gorkanaut, he rolls a 6 (+1), it explodes.  The war walkers open up, kill a kan (haha get it?).  The wave serpents and fire prisms, and some sort of barrage thing wipe out units of kans.  By the time the smoke is cleared, I'd down a stompa, gorkanaut, and 4-5 killa kans, with some hull points to the deff dreads.
On the orks turn, the deff dreads shout at the remaing killa kans, I prep for charges into the things I can charge, and the mega dread blows away 1.5 war walkers.  I then fail every single one of my charges!

I May have my revenge!
Back to the Eldar's turn.  They shift around, and make me suffer a bit for trying to assault their war walkers.
The end result is pretty much the ork army is wiped out! (complete tabling!).  Even though I was beaten into a pulp, I know my ork walkers will rise again to crush the eldar and steal all their shiny bits! (I still had a  blast, was great fun playing with Todd!).
After this game, Todd introduced me to malifaux, which I had a blast playing.  He also showed me a ton of the models I haven't seen of his, and the lynx he's painting currently on his blog.  Was a great visit, and can't wait to return the favor later when he visits the home of greggles!
These photos are a bit out of order, but figured I'd put them here for everyone to check out if they wanted!  They are my crappy cell phone pics.  the other photos were taken with my canon on a monopod.  (quite a difference!)
Next update will be the stompa getting orange, some pins for the walkers, a review of the elite battlefoam case, and leaving for LVO! (Look for that Tuesday!)  Thanks for stopping by, and hope you guys enjoyed the bat rep and update! Thanks for all your comments!
