This is the event you were all waiting for. A call goes out for the last battle of the narrative. Greggles throws down his army for the comm relay mission. Dave steps up for a rematch. Would the game be a blow out like before with the orks barely holding on? Or would gork and mork smile favorably upon the great walkers!!! The orks have an ace up their sleeve this game.
Such is the orks excitement, their first recon photos show up blurry! And what is this? A wraithknight on their lines? (I had my ork knight in the capital palette painting comp, and didn't have time to pick it up before this game, so Todd allowed me use of his wraithknight as a proxy!)
There will be no quarter in this game. No holding back. the objectives are in the orks quadrant, but they will not wait for their foe. They dive forward in rampaging anger to claim their vengeance! The Tau hold most of their army in reserve, to drop it on the flanks of the orks. The orks don't care. They just want the stormsurges to die! BIG STOMPY SMASHY!
The tau fire...and fire...and fire. They jump out behind buildings, and jump back. But the orks see their targets. There will be no shooting...only charging!
The tau reserves start dropping in. Reigning down hellfire. But the orks show their ace! A special ability that puts one of the tau units immediately back into reserve...they stop the broadsides from entering, and cut off an entire flank of firing from the tau. The broadsides begin chipping away at the kill kans, while the crisis suits fail with their meltas. The commander and his group are more successful, and blow one of the gorkanauts out with a single shot of melta. (silly expensive walker dying in one hit)
The orks see nothing but endless rage. Dave overextended one of the stormsurges, and didn't get the leap back he wanted. The ork knight makes the charge, and locks one of the storm surges in combat! The rest of the walkers turn to deal with the new threats.
The broadsides show up, and fire a withering hail of fire into the ork sides, immoblizing the remaining gorkanaut. The ork knight swings, and wipes out the stormsurge, then immediately consolidates towards the next one. The other knight is constantly fighting with the stealth drone suit (a thorn in my side, as he can pop out, melta, then pop back behind los every turn).
Turn four was a massive turn. In the top of turn 4, the ork knight kills the storm surge. (in daves turn). Then ends up reaching and assaulting the second stormsurge AND DESTROYING IT (ORK OBJECTIVE COMPLETE!!!!) on my turn. The killa kans, gorkanaut, and deff dread remove the broadsides from existence. The other ork knight assaults the stealth drone, and is destroyed by a melta shot in overwatch!!!! (what are the chances!!!). The killa kans in the ruins wipe out the remaining crisis suits in range, while a final group of ork walkers moves to engage the commanders unit. So much death and destruction in this turn, it was absolutely glorious. Dave and I were yelling back in forth at the craziness of things dying.
Watching his killa kan brethern die around him, a lone deff dread charges the commanders unit.
I'd love to say he made the charge...but he didn't. The orks luck had run out (they killed the big stompys, so they are just having fun now). The commander easily wipes him out in the ensuing firing round.
In the remaining rounds, the ripetides remove the remaining killa kans, forcing me to keep a deff dread back to hold an objective point. My forces down to just the gorkanaut and the one ork knight (with a single hull point left), his a crisis suit, commander (he seperates him from the unit), two riptides and a stealth suit. The score is very close, with both of us tied for tertiary and secondary. With dave holding the primary. I realize I can't win at this point, as his suit is inside the command bunker, and even if I blow up the bunker, he is still obj secured and will hold the point. So I do what any good ork player would do. I make the commander pay for his blunder. WARLORD KILLED (for the second time in a game vs Dave). I thought I had a photo of the gorkanaut tearing the commander limb from limb, but can't seem to find it :)
Dave ends up winning the game by 6 points, but the orks gave him an excellent thrashing :). He went on to win best commander, and undefeated in his faction, so almost beating him made me feel pretty good! Great game Dave! Was a pleasuring fighting you!
