Welcome back everyone! Going to be an exciting post today...I finished a squad! (well mostly finished, I forgot about the ork guy). I also got primer on all the things to paint, to bring the new dreads up to snuff with the existing army. I originally was going to spray on Wednesday, but held back due to how thin the vallejo primer was. Zab recommended I try badger, but that wouldn't get here till Thursday! So since I had some time to kill, I started playing the witcher 3. After 60 or so hours of time was eaten, I realized I had to do something for the blog, and quickly painted up the gretchin and their bases last night during the FLG hobby twitch time!

Before I get started I need to give credit where it is due for the first image.
Kyle, one of the newest members of our crew generated an updated version of the Texas "Come and Take It" flag to be more Badab appropriate. I think it's a winner and we've decided to label ourselves "Team Come and Take It" should we ever make it to an event. Unfortunately, he has decided to join forces with the Badab secessionists and the loyalists do not intend to let him hang around long enough to collect any royalties. It's sad really. Which causes me to wonder, why do such creative minds feel the need to toss off the beneficent yoke of the Imperium and strike off on their own misguided paths? I suppose that is some debate we Loyalists might entertain after the victorious conclusion of this campaign as we do not worry ourselves too much about the clouded states of mind that seem to be a characteristic of the heretics. So last week was quite the typing (and work) adventure, so in the interest of balance and fair play, I shall be offering a slightly lesser portion of hobby fare today because <managing expectations> .
Our group has decided to kick off the Badab campaign from Forgeworld's Imperial Armor #9 and #10. If you are in any way interested in the subject, FW did an excellent job with both of those books and those two volumes are still among my favorites from all that they've produced so far. The good news from a task perspective is that I really don't have anything that I "have" to paint as I'll be using my Templars as stand-ins for the various loyalist chapters. As it stands now, I'll be representing Minotaurs, Red Scorpions and possibly the Fire Angels and Star Phantoms, depending on the scenario. Others will be doing the same and it appears that we have around 8 people able to participate. Welcome back friends and future patrons! :) I'm slowly getting back into my hobby grove, so didn't quite make my normal wednesday post, but made it to thursday! This week I actually painted some, and got to work on an old project I've been dragging my feet on. Macathu's remaining wraiths/canoptek spyder. I previously painted a group of them using my brush skills...this time Macathu asked if I could use the airbrush! Though Macathu appeciates how I obsess over detail, he made sure to tell me "block in the colors with that glowy effect". So I set out a plan to use the same purples, but over a zenithal style highlight...well, more like me adding interest with grey primer!
Ok, after last week's 100 megaton photo bomb drop, I think it's safe to come out of the bunker and get caught up. BTW, those "Deff Dread" selfies just cracked me up. However, for next year, I will award extra points for Deff Dread photo bombs. The bar, it must be raised. (Challenge Accepted -G) Regarding our campaign thread, Assault on Pathos IV, we are still scheduled for a 4/11 effort to get Pt. II unleashed...except that last week, one of the team was informed that they were going to be scheduled out of town that day.
Hey Guys! I hope you've been enjoying the adepticon coverage. Today I'm actually going to talk about my experience at adepticon outside of carrying a monopod around and taking 1300 photos. The main reason I went to adepticon was to meet fellow bloggers, #warmongers, and some of my favorite miniature artists. What I would experience is far more amazing and wonderful then I ever could have imagined. (Note: I apologize for anyone whose name I don't remember. Note2: If you go to an event like this, make sure you have business cards, so drunk forgetful Greg can remember you better! This post is also a link fest) I got to adepticon a day before it began, giving me plenty of time to settle in. I wasn't in the main hotel, as it was filled up almost instantly (I really hope I get in there next year, as I really want to participate in the friendly!) so I went exploring!
Greetings everybody! Hope everyone is doing well this Adepticon Wednesday! That's right, it is finally time for Adepticon! Today I'm going to talk about what I've been up to in prep for adepticon, (my schedule), meetups, work on my deff dread for crystal brush, and how I transported my orks to LVO. It's a whopper of a post! If you are interested in the case review, click the above image, or the giant button below. If you are ready for the amazing great chipping fluid experimentation, read on! I'm back from LVO, and what an absolute blast I had. Fantastic games, great people, and super surprises! For those who don't want to read further, the ork walkers went 2-2, and I the Deff Dread took a Bronze, and the Killa kans got a Silver in the journeyman painting competition!!!! I'm currently working on going through the 700 or so photos I took, which will show up as a photo dump later this week! Then I've got battle reports from each of my battles, and a review on the case that took my entire army (checked on the plane), to and from LVO! Going to be a lot of posts, so hold on tight guys! Lets start with the last bits first...on the last day, I decided to follow the advice fellow bloggers have always given. Whether or not you feel you can win in a painting competition...always enter. It forces you to keep your game up, introduces you to fellow talent, and you will get direct and honest feedback from judges. So with that in mind, I was particularly happy with how my walkers had turned out after the powders, so I entered the deff dread and the killa kans as a squad...
Orks are constantly looking for a bigger, better fight. Especially onces jammed inside of walkers with nothing else to do. So I took the stompa and the crew over to sincain40k's for a Eldar vs Ork super bash! Little I did a know, Todd brought a big friend to introduce the Stompa too! More friendly LVO practice...and as you might guess, practice at enjoying yourself in all gaming situations! :) . I was also able to get some oranges on the gorkanaut. I couldn't get to the stompa in time (that will be for an tuesday post next week, with a case review!), but I was able to seal sixteen walkers when the temp was 50F+. All that is left is pinning a few models to bases, and travelling to Las Vegas!
Welcome back everyone! Got an exciting post for you this week. My first test game with the walker mob...against the new Necrons! I also started hitting all the models up with bright oranges for the final rust stage, and will be sealing them (then chipping fluid) this Wednesday (because it's 10C!!!) You'll notice right away (those of you with enhanced optics) that the three killa kans in front look a bit...brighter. That's because I started with the orange layer this past week!
Welcome back friends! It's been a crazy hectic week. I was able to hit up all the walkers with a purple pass, including the stompa. So now every one of the walkers is at the same state in paint! I also attended Magfest 2015, played some x-wing, and changed my LVO list to be "friendlier". Lets start off with Magfest, since that is the freshest thing in my mind. Magfest is a video gaming convention held in the National Harbor at the Gaylord hotel. It is similar to an east coast "pax lite". There is a room full of arcade cabinets, another room with console and indie games, a tabletop section, and multiple concert and panel halls. Magfest has grown steadily in the past few years, and now is easily hosting over 10,000 gamers, tabletopers, and cosplayers. I mainly just hung out with the FYN crew, played a few games, went to the powerglove concert, and played some xwing. I was hoping to catch a 40k game or two, but they didn't have the table there this year.
Welcome back everyone! I spent a good chunk of time over the past week getting all the ork dreadnoughts to the same level of paint. All now have two coats of browns (and one has some purple!). Progress is going slowly, but progressing across a wide front. I also ordered myself the relic boardgame, and it's expansion...mainly for the amazing busts. I've only seen these covered a bit in other blogs (like Roemers), so I thought I'd give you all some nice photos of the entire collection! Relic is a 40k style boardgame, where you can level up characters, and work towards saving the galaxy, yadda yadda yadda. That part isn't important. What is important is the quality and number of busts this box comes with!
Foldio Review! Starting off...one of the first things I got for my bday was the Double LED Foldio! It's basically a portable lightbox, but very well made, and wonderful to use and take photos through. As time goes on I slowly replace my old jury rig solutions with actual ones. I'm hoping this lets me present better photos of everything I create! I've written a little review here, (you can also click the image or title), if you'd like to know more! They are also doing a kickstarter for the second generation foldio...check it out here, it's got 2 days remaining if you are interested! I love Ork walkers. If this was not apparent from the multitude of posts on the subject, then it should be now! This past week it was my birthday, so I got a great number of most excellent presents, some of which will help me to obtain my painting goals! I also found out that weebly has finally integrated disqus commenting, so I updated it. This has one very horrifically sad effect (deleting hundreds of comments), but should hopefully enable easier commenting in the future. If you hate disqus, please let me know! You'll start seeing all my models get photographed in this glorious device. It makes an AWESOME difference and really showcases the models. And speaking of models, I got a lot more work done on the walkers!
Destroying the building and all it's inhabitants. Do you like giant walkers? Do you like rolling endless amounts of dice? Is Green your favorite color? Then you've come to the right place...because I'm working on an ork stompa, which brings new meaning to the word "Dakka Dakka!" Where did we leave off? Hmm...I was frustrated with stompa magnets, putting stuff on the stompa, cleaning the stompa, thinking about priming the stompa...basically the kit was draining me. It's a mighty big kit...I mean the little turret on his shoulder? That's a killa kan body. That's how big this guy is! So one of the problems I ran into...was I didn't prep properly with magnets. I used way to small, and way too weak. So I had to spend a lot of time redoing nearly all the magnets. First off, I had forgotten about the little crows nest tower and I glued things on the wrong side...so I had to find a way to both fit it, and allow for transport. (most of this stompa is magnetized for transport, because I want to play with it!) So I found a little spot on the top to take the crows nest, and it worked pretty good.
Welcome back friends! I hope you are having a wonderful holiday. It's a great time for us here at FYN, as this also marks our one year anniversary! Though I came down with a nasty illness the last week, I still was able to get some work done on Shantz xmas surprise, the Haemonculus! Since I last worked on the haemy, I decided to attach him to his base. This was mainly because I wanted to both give myself a good avenue to paint him, but also ensure I could use plastic glue to permently attach him to that base. There are few contact points, the cloak, the spine, the back foot...i used plastic glue on them all, and the result is that he does not budge. This model is not flimsy by any definition now!
